So I Want to Write a Web Fic

Written by Scath on December 4, 2009 – 12:37 pm

I’ve spent the morning attempting to puzzle out the dos and don’ts of writing a web fic. The Night Has Fallen trilogy is my chosen victim to this effort, although its fate is uncertain at this time.

There are a few good reasons to consider writing a web fic, and they’re centered around giving a good, solid example of your writing in order to draw readers and build a readership.

While some people write web fic just for the love of it, there are several authors who do so in hopes that it’ll draw interest to their titles available for purchase, or earn them a bit of sideline cash via donations to fund extras they can’t afford on their monthly budgets.

Ideally, you write a web fic, draw readers in to build a solid readership for your work, and those readers spread word of mouth, resulting in more readers and sales of your other works. Bonus: feedback and interaction from those readers!

Something New

Written by Scath on May 26, 2009 – 1:47 pm

I’ve decided to start publishing a few of my short fiction series based on how well they sell. I’ve adjusted the price and sales venues accordingly.

So for a buck, you can purchase the first in the Daughters of the Lore series, Resurgence.

It’s available through the KKP Lulu store in PDF format.

It’s also available DRM free in several different formats for a variety of digital readers at Smashwords.

Resurgence

I’m working on the Amazon version is now available, but you can get a Kindle version ( .mobi format) from Smashwords DRM Free.

Temporary Satisfaction

Written by Scath on April 13, 2009 – 8:33 pm

That’s apparently my lot in life. No sooner than I’m satisfied I’ve made good progress on completing some of my To Do list, than I realize I still have more things lining up to do.

Cool! :)

You may notice things look a little different here at Feral Intensity. I think I found a theme I really like. I like it so much, I used it over on ShadowConnor too.

Received the new proof copy for Season of Shadows this morning, and it looks great! Have approved it, so it’s once again available for ordering at its new, lower price of $ 9.99. The Amazon listing hasn’t updated yet.

Hm, what else? Oh, Ronnie made some fantastic looking logos for KKP, which we’re waiting on Damian and David to weigh in on before declaring a winner. Once we do, then I’ll be changing the theme for the KKP blog in order to use the logo. Thinking I’ll go with Vertigo Electrified for it, but with the same black and gold colors.

Kate’s Incognition will be released tomorrow at KKP’s bookstore and Lulu storefront. Amazon will take a few days before it’s available as a Kindle edition.

My Attention Wandered

Written by Scath on April 11, 2009 – 12:23 pm

As it tends to do every time I try to work on whatever To Do list is in front of my nose. Planning my attack on the KKP To Do list when slippage began and some writing on the witchling and Kithran occurred. That somehow segued into thinking about the Shadow Connor series.

I’m going to blame the fur, thank you.

As you may or may not know, depending  on whether my previous babblings have been retained in your membrane, I plan to release a print volume for each three single titles in that series.

Vol. 1 is Season of Shadows. Vol. 2 was supposed to consist of Past Shadows, Blood Stalking and Feral Child. I started worrying about what Vol. 2’s title was going to be. Why?

I have no idea since none of those are remotely near a finish line. But there I was, freaking out over a title for it. Has to be ‘Season of’ something, okay?

End of February

Written by Scath on February 28, 2009 – 10:42 pm

Well, my word count over on the right looks really horrible for the month, compared to January’s. I actually wrote a LOT; but I only count what makes it onto the computer. The typing up thing? I didn’t do so well on that this month.

So, if next month’s word count ends up looking extremely impressive, that just means I got around to typing up this 2 inches or so of paper sitting on my desk. :)

What did I actually accomplish this month?

I finished By Chance (After the Fall series), wrote Do You Remember?, began Secret Guardians, tidied up Precious Illusions and installed a helluva lot of my Poser content.

Also, I wrote down some info for a story the horses induced a brain explosion on, and am a little over 4k into yet another new story that I plan to take my time on. And I just finished re-organizing my writing folder.

All in all, not a bad month. :)

My plans for this month include finishing the installation of the rest of my Poser content; create the bookcovers for Kate’s When Fur Flies and my By Chance and The Silent One, all three of which are set in the After the Fall series. I’d like to get all three published this month.

I have tentative plans on what I’ll be trying to work on this month.

  • Secret Guardians
  • Past Shadows
  • Allegra’s story (that new one I’m 4k+ into)
  • Room for Two (After the Fall)
  • Outlaw’s Magic (Majick Incorporated series, ties into The Huntress series, and was my first NaNo 2008 effort)
  • Finish Rift (a short story set in The Huntress series)

We’ll see how I do, huh? :)
