Stuff in My Brain Today

Written by Scath on May 7, 2009 – 10:26 am

Random sludge is filling in the crevices today.

  • Writing – I’m giving up on just adding typed in pages to my monthly word count, since I never manage to get everything typed up each month. Instead, I’m just going to add 400 words per paper page written to it. Since they usually run between 410 -440 words per page when I do type them up, I’m under guesstimating a bit, but that’s fine.
  • Writing 2 – Book projects’ word counts will only be updated with typed in pages to keep them as accurate as possible. Read more »

Star Wars Day

Written by Scath on May 4, 2009 – 6:59 pm

May the fourth be with you!

Okay, okay. :)

I actually did quite a bit of writing yesterday, mainly on Blood Stalking, but then Forsaken Ridge popped up.

Don’t ask. Well, okay, you can ask. I’m thinking it’ll consist of a collection of short stories. The first one’s finished, but I have to type it up. Which I will, and will likely post an excerpt from for tomorrow. Yay, new writing!

Boo! Another project for my list!

Today, with a little help from one of the funnest dudes on Twitter, I put up a Shady ‘wiki’. Sort of. Content’s a bit on the scraggly side at the moment, but you can go have a look around anyway.

Writing Prompts: Starter Sentences

Written by Scath on February 9, 2009 – 8:39 am

As a co-host to Writing Workshop, the brainchild of JC, I’ve been posting some starter sentences on an irregular basis. Here they are; feel free to use them if you like. :)

  • All I wanted was a cup of coffee. (This one resulted in a 35k + story for me, which is the beginning of a new series)
  • Bound and blind-folded, she attempted in vain to convince herself it was a cruel prank.
  • All good fairytales start with ‘once upon a time’ and end with ‘they lived happily ever after’; well, folks, this ain’t Disney.
  • The comic books have it all wrong.
  • The ‘tick-tick’ of toenails was coming closer.
  • I strained to hear something – anything – over the pounding of my heart.
  • Waiting in the dark can be fun.
  • He moved the way I imagined a proddy gunslinger would.
  • It was always a possibility.
  • Little did he know what the next day would bring.
  • “Well, if that’s how you really feel about it.”
  • All she received in response was a slow blink.
  • “I don’t know what that was, but it definitely wasn’t what I’d call fun.”
  • “You’re preaching to someone who’s eaten a choir or two in his time.”
  • There was supposed to be a full moon tonight, so it shouldn’t be this dark.
  • I stared out the window, unable to bring myself to look at him.
  • Dancing warmly through the verdant greenery, the breeze carried with it the scent of freshly baked apple pie.
  • Every move hinted at a brutal power restrained as he crossed to the bar, gesturing for a beer, and a chill of fascinated revulsion crept down her spine as their eyes met.
  • This wasn’t anything I’d planned.

Downloadebook4free

Written by Scath on January 31, 2009 – 10:47 pm

For all those who are looking for free reading material that’s guarenteed virus free, here’s what I currently have available:

  • Shades of Gray: Contemporary tale of a young couple with marriage problems. Zipped PDF
  • Tales from After: The zombie apocalypse did happen. So did some other rather unexpected things in Jazz’s life. Zipped PDF
  • Playing for Keeps: Short short set in the After the Fall series. Zipped DOC
  • Solo Mission: Flash fiction bit set in the After the Fall series. Zipped Doc

Those four are it at the moment, but you can always click over on Categories to find posts with more free to read excerpts, flash and short fiction. Code Walker is an installment story that’s still a work in progress. It’s listed under ‘Serial Indexes’.

I hope you enjoy them! :)

Wanna make the Universe laugh?

Written by Scath on January 28, 2009 – 12:08 am

All you have to do is tell it your plans. :)

Here’s mine for this week:

  • Install more content for Poser (I haz book covers to do, people)
  • Finish By Chance (Have I put an excerpt up for that yet? Ooh, I have!)
  • Prepare Solo Mission for freebie download (It’s a short set in the After the Fall series)
  • Install more content for Poser (very important, that’s why it’s here again)
  • Set up some future posts of new excerpts here and over there
  • Uh…install content for Poser? Did I mention I have some book covers to do?

Oh, oh! Guess what? Kate’s Wolf Hollow is going to print! I don’t know about you guys, but I’m buying three copies. Because I want one for myself, one for someone else and uh…the third one I’m not sure what I’m doing with just yet (donate it to our local library?). Also because she’s named an imp, a ghost and something else…a space anomaly, was it?…after me. :)

Oh, crap. I totally forgot I was going to re-do my About page here. [forehead takes chunk out of desk's edge]
