Set Resurgence Free
Written by Scath on February 1, 2010 – 8:58 pm
Basically, this is a test of a new sort of ‘business model’.
I will release a free to download, sponsored/ad-supported version of Resurgence in PDF, DRM free format with a Creative Commons license (free to share/attribution/non-commercial/no alteration/deriatives) if there are people willing to donate to make such a version available.
The donations will be my compensation as the author.
Resurgence is a short story/longer flash fiction piece of 2, 263 word count. It’s sci fi/fantasy.
Compensation amount is $ 113.15 ( five (5) cents per word).
Donate $5 or more, and you’ll be listed at the front of the sponsored version as one of the people who’ve made it available for free download. Your name and/or web site link, whichever you choose. The sponsored version will be available here, at my imprint site, and at Smashwords, and hopefully on other people’s web sites shortly thereafter.
The unsponsored version will remain available for purchase for those readers who’d rather not have ‘ads’ in their ebooks (it’s only 99 cents at full cover price).
If the response is good, I’ll do the same for more titles with different sponsorship options.
Do you want to set Resurgence free? Donate!

New Release: The Harkfell Chronicles
Written by Scath on August 8, 2009 – 12:22 pm
A collection of flash and short fiction based on the life of Constance Harkfell, Librarian and vampire hunter.
Available at Smashwords in DRM free formats for several electronic readers, including the Kindle, by clicking on the cover thumbnail.
Word count: 4, 765
Price: $ 1.50
Excerpt from ‘Promise Keepers’:
My trench coat rustles with each step as I walk the darkened street. Each one flashes bare leg from the tops of my knee high, patent leather boots to the hem of the short vinyl skirt. My scalp itches under the black wig I wear, and I’m scanning the shadows from behind a mask of thick make up and dark shades.
Just another lady of the night looking for a customer.
Twenty feet ahead of me, a shadow detaches itself from a pool of darkness. There’s the faint animal shine of eyes as he looks in my direction. When I’m closer, he asks, “Are you lonesome tonight?”
“Maybe.”
“How much?” Like all of them, he needs to touch, raising a hand to let one fingertip trace the line of my jaw as I stop in front of him.
“Depends on what you want,” I reply, letting a coy smile curve my lips.
“You, a bed, a few hours,” he smiles back, blue eyes gleaming.
“Few hours, nothing kinky?” At his nod, I tell him, “Two hundred.”
“Done.” He’s drawn very close, smiling down at me.

End of February
Written by Scath on February 28, 2009 – 10:42 pmWell, my word count over on the right looks really horrible for the month, compared to January’s. I actually wrote a LOT; but I only count what makes it onto the computer. The typing up thing? I didn’t do so well on that this month.
So, if next month’s word count ends up looking extremely impressive, that just means I got around to typing up this 2 inches or so of paper sitting on my desk.
What did I actually accomplish this month?
I finished By Chance (After the Fall series), wrote Do You Remember?, began Secret Guardians, tidied up Precious Illusions and installed a helluva lot of my Poser content.
Also, I wrote down some info for a story the horses induced a brain explosion on, and am a little over 4k into yet another new story that I plan to take my time on. And I just finished re-organizing my writing folder.
All in all, not a bad month.
My plans for this month include finishing the installation of the rest of my Poser content; create the bookcovers for Kate’s When Fur Flies and my By Chance and The Silent One, all three of which are set in the After the Fall series. I’d like to get all three published this month.
I have tentative plans on what I’ll be trying to work on this month.
- Secret Guardians
- Past Shadows
- Allegra’s story (that new one I’m 4k+ into)
- Room for Two (After the Fall)
- Outlaw’s Magic (Majick Incorporated series, ties into The Huntress series, and was my first NaNo 2008 effort)
- Finish Rift (a short story set in The Huntress series)
We’ll see how I do, huh?

- Playing for Keeps: Short short set in the After the Fall series. Zipped DOC

Those four are it at the moment, but you can always click over on Categories to find posts with more free to read excerpts, flash and short fiction. Code Walker is an installment story that’s still a work in progress. It’s listed under ‘Serial Indexes’.
I hope you enjoy them!
