Fortunately, Jregli discovers that she can make friends rather easily, and they rally behind her. From the fiercely loyal Hunsid Twins (who tend to act before thinking and only think when forced to) to the grandmotherly Rundion to the Station Commander himself, she finds that being a slave doesn’t mean what she thought it meant.

Commander Neim has his suspicions about the Yerbran girl, but without proof, he can’t intervene. That is actually a good thing, since he’s about to have more on his plate than any human could wish for. But that comes in Volume 2. Which is conveniently online for your reading pleasure.
