The Method to My Madness

Categories: My Writing
Tags:: , ,

Every month I end up with a 4-6 inch tall stack of writing sitting on my desk that hasn’t been typed up. I’ve been only counting up the pages I do type up in my monthly/yearly word counts.

Well, screw that. People, I write almost as much as I breathe, and I write as fast as I read.  I’m HYPER, okay?

The pages I type up are immediately filed away and added to my monthly word count plus the word count for whatever book/story they’re for. The rest? Well, I’ve been just cleaning off my desk at the end of the month, filing all those untyped pages away in the appropriate folders.

Not anymore. See my word counts over on the sidebar? Notice the jump for April from 12, 593 and this month’s from 6,521?  I went through the stack of paper as per my previous entry and added in the guesstimated word count. A full page I count as 400 words (they usually result in somewhere between 410 -440 when typed up, so under guesstimating a bit there). Only the front’s full? 200 words, and so on. I skipped any pages that only had a few lines, and I’ve a few I didn’t count because I am going to type up those two Shadow Connor shorts this weekend, so their accurate word count will be added in, not a guesstimate.

And from now on, the pages that end up being stacked on my desk and not typed up will be cleared off with their guesstimate word count added into the monthly count. Only typed up stuff will be added to the word counts per project. Typed up stuff will be added to the monthly count as usual.

I’ve got to keep from building that mountain there on my right, LOL. Plus, it’s a truer glimpse of my monthly writing output.

And now that I’ve bored everyone completely to death, I think I’ll go do some work. Heh. :)
