My Attention Wandered

Posted By Scath on April 11, 2009

As it tends to do every time I try to work on whatever To Do list is in front of my nose. Planning my attack on the KKP To Do list when slippage began and some writing on the witchling and Kithran occurred. That somehow segued into thinking about the Shadow Connor series.

I’m going to blame the fur, thank you.

As you may or may not know, depending  on whether my previous babblings have been retained in your membrane, I plan to release a print volume for each three single titles in that series.

Vol. 1 is Season of Shadows. Vol. 2 was supposed to consist of Past Shadows, Blood Stalking and Feral Child. I started worrying about what Vol. 2′s title was going to be. Why?

I have no idea since none of those are remotely near a finish line. But there I was, freaking out over a title for it. Has to be ‘Season of’ something, okay?

I thought Season of Changes, but something just wasn’t settling well for it. I tweeted. I mused.

GabrielGadfly made a hilarious suggestions: Season of Seasons: The Second Thyme Around  :)

Jo tried Seasons of Darkness out on me, but I have this thing about this series: each single title has to be two words, while the print volumes have to be three, and have to start with ‘Season of’, no plural on the season.

Because Shady said so, that’s why. Okay?

I’ve sort of settled on Season of Blood for Vol. 2, because out crawled the thought that Past Shadows isn’t book 3, but book 5. What seems to have happened was that I tried to squish Past Shadows and Blood Stalking into one story.

Shadow set me straight. It hurt too. [rubs temples]

So after a couple of Advil, changes have been made and the storylines are very, very clear now.

I still don’t have Vol. 4′s title. Season ofSeason of Binding? Dammit.

It’s this kind of stuff that will assure I never become a traditionally published author. Which is okay, because I like to stay flexible and not listening to my characters results in bad things happening to my brain.

Definitely want to keep Shady happy. She delivers a helluva mean thump.

  1. Martin says:

That’s the trouble with ‘to do’ lists, they demand that you actually do something.

For the title of number 4, some ideas to help:
    Season of…war/wolves/change/flesh/prey/games/violence

    Have fun.
