Writing Prompts: Starter Sentences

As a co-host to Writing Workshop, the brainchild of JC, I’ve been posting some starter sentences on an irregular basis. Here they are; feel free to use them if you like.
- All I wanted was a cup of coffee. (This one resulted in a 35k + story for me, which is the beginning of a new series)
- Bound and blind-folded, she attempted in vain to convince herself it was a cruel prank.
- All good fairytales start with ‘once upon a time’ and end with ‘they lived happily ever after’; well, folks, this ain’t Disney.
- The comic books have it all wrong.
- The ‘tick-tick’ of toenails was coming closer.
- I strained to hear something – anything – over the pounding of my heart.
- Waiting in the dark can be fun.
- He moved the way I imagined a proddy gunslinger would.
- It was always a possibility.
- Little did he know what the next day would bring.
- “Well, if that’s how you really feel about it.”
- All she received in response was a slow blink.
- “I don’t know what that was, but it definitely wasn’t what I’d call fun.”
- “You’re preaching to someone who’s eaten a choir or two in his time.”
- There was supposed to be a full moon tonight, so it shouldn’t be this dark.
- I stared out the window, unable to bring myself to look at him.
- Dancing warmly through the verdant greenery, the breeze carried with it the scent of freshly baked apple pie.
- Every move hinted at a brutal power restrained as he crossed to the bar, gesturing for a beer, and a chill of fascinated revulsion crept down her spine as their eyes met.
- This wasn’t anything I’d planned.
